ICCA Publishes Responsible Care® Status Report for 2018
The ICCA Responsible Care® Status Report 2018 has now been published and is available for download here.
Providing the Global Picture for 2018, it gathers full reporting from 37 Chemical Industry associations from around the world as well as partial reporting from a further 12. The lead chemical organisations for four more nations have been added since the last Status Report in 2015, and the report details progress, performance, process safety and KPIs across Health and Safety, Environment, Resources and Distribution. It also features case studies highlighting a variety of actions across diverse markets from USA and Spain through to India and the Arabian Gulf.
Responsible Care® has been the global chemical industry’s premier performance initiative for more than 30 years and is now implemented by 62 chemical associations in nearly 70 economies around the world.
The report details the programme’s actions including its cooperation with UN Environment, distributors, governments and regulators. It explains the global chemical industry’s commitment to accelerating progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the area of Health and Wellness and includes a dedicated section on the adoption of GHS.
The growing focus on sustainability both within the industry and externally has helped to shape the evolution of Responsible Care® initiatives in many parts of the world over the past three decades and enabled our sector’s continued engagement in the sustainable development debate at international level.
It stresses how sound chemicals management must guide all the industry’s interactions from international level through to individual production sites and the whole supply chain, and highlights capacity building initiatives around the world.
The global Responsible Care Charter, which was published in 2006 and revised in 2014, commits the chemicals industry to six key actions:
- Proactively supporting safe chemicals management;
- Safeguarding people and the environment;
- Strengthening chemicals management systems through implementation of life-cycle oriented sound science;
- Influencing business partners to promote the safe management of chemicals within their own operations;
- Engaging stakeholders, understanding their concerns and reporting on performance and products; and
- Contributing to sustainability through improved performance.
