Markus Kamieth begins his term as President of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA)

Brussels, January 2026 – The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) marks the start of Markus Kamieth’s term as ICCA President, effective 1 January 2026.

Markus Kamieth, CEO of BASF SEMarkus Kamieth, CEO of BASF SE, assumes the Presidency at a time when international cooperation is essential to address shared global challenges related to chemicals management, sustainability, and trade. As ICCA President, he will represent chemical associations worldwide and support dialogue with international institutions and stakeholders.

Commenting on the start of his term, Markus Kamieth said:

Even in a challenging geopolitical environment, international collaboration remains crucial to enable safe, sustainable and competitive chemical value chains. Through ICCA, we can contribute constructively to global frameworks, promote responsible practices, and support solutions that work across regions.”

In the coming year, ICCA will continue its engagement in key global processes. This includes the implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals and preparations for its first International Conference in November 2026, as well as international discussions on plastics and the ongoing INC5 round of negotiations on a future Global Plastics Treaty. ICCA will also continue to advance Responsible Care®, the industry’s global initiative to strengthen health, safety, security, and environmental performance across the chemical sector.
