Chemical Industry Boosts Funding to €1.5M for Global Chemicals Management
Brussels, Belgium (6 August 2025) –
The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) has announced an additional €500,000 contribution to the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC) Fund, bringing its total support to €1.5 million. The announcement was made during the first meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) for the GFC in June.
ICCA has supported the GFC since its launch at the fifth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in 2023, building on its engagement in the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
“The members of our global chemical industry are proud to continue supporting the GFC,” stated Marco Mensink, ICCA Secretariat and Director General of Cefic. “GFC’s work is helping countries to strengthen their systems for managing and effectively regulating chemicals. Our additional €500,000 contribution – building on our 2024 funds – demonstrates our industry’s ongoing commitment as a constructive and active partner since the GFC’s inception. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to further develop and implement the framework.”
Beyond the monetary contributions to the GFC Fund, ICCA is continuing to support the work through 3 ambitions that members have tirelessly worked on since the fifth session of the International Conference of Chemicals Management (ICCM5).
- Transparency: ICCA aims to provide access to available safety and sustainability data for our products by 2030, so that countries don’t have to recreate the work that’s already been done. The work has already started with the creation of a Plastics Additives Database.
- Capacity building: ICCA is supporting at least 30 countries in their implementation of effective chemical management systems by 2030 .
- Sustainable solutions: the chemical industry will guide our product portfolios, including processes, towards sustainable solutions. Our industry is a leader in sustainable innovation, creating products that help build a better future.
ICCA will continue to be a productive and proactive participant in the GFC and other international bodies and we look forward to working with all stakeholders to complete our ambitions by 2030.
